The Legend
Bifröst is the shimmering rainbow bridge that links Asgard, the home of the gods, to the other worlds below. Its three blazing colors arch across the sky, and the gods ride over it each day to hold their councils beneath the World Tree.
Though it looks like a delicate rainbow, the bridge is far stronger than it seems, and the red band within it is a living fire that burns any who are not gods and would try to cross. This flame is what keeps the frost giants from storming into Asgard.
At the far end of the bridge stands Heimdall, the watchman, who guards it without rest. Yet even Bifröst has an end foretold. At Ragnarök the fire-giant Surtr and the sons of Muspell will ride across it, and under their weight the great bridge will finally break.
