Vali

God of Vengeance, Avenger of Baldr

Vali, the Norse god of vengeance

Born for Vengeance

Vali is a son of Odin and the giantess Rindr, brought into being for a single purpose: to avenge the death of Baldr. His birth and his mission are among the events set in motion by the murder of the shining god.

According to the old poems, Vali grows to full manhood in a single day. He neither washes his hands nor combs his hair until he has carried out his task, slaying the blind god Hodr, through whom Baldr was killed.

Vali is counted among the young gods destined to survive Ragnarök. When the old world burns and the great powers fall, he is one of those who will walk the green earth of the world reborn.
