The Legend
Gjallarhorn, whose name means the yelling or resounding horn, belongs to Heimdall, the ever-watchful guardian of the gods. From his post at Himinbjörg, where the rainbow bridge Bifröst meets the sky, Heimdall keeps watch over the approaches to Asgard.
The horn's blast can be heard throughout every one of the Nine Worlds. Heimdall guards it carefully, for it is to be sounded only once, at the moment the enemies of the gods march on Asgard and Ragnarök begins.
The horn is also linked to the well of Mímir, which lies beneath one of the roots of Yggdrasil. Some tales say Gjallarhorn rests in those wise waters, and that Mímir drinks from it each morning.
