The Four Smiths
The Brísings are the four dwarf craftsmen who forged Brísingamen, the famous golden necklace of the goddess Freyja. The name Brísingamen is often understood to mean the ornament of the Brísings, marking it forever as their masterwork.
Working deep in their forge, the four dwarfs shaped a piece of such beauty that the goddess of love herself could not bear to be without it. When Freyja came upon them and asked to buy the necklace, they refused gold and silver, naming a very different price for so rare a treasure.
Freyja agreed to their terms and won Brísingamen, which became her most treasured possession. Its later theft by Loki and recovery by Heimdall is one of the well-remembered tales of the necklace the Brísings made.
