Overview
Sköll and Hati are two great wolves that run across the heavens in an endless chase. Sköll pursues Sól, the sun, and Hati pursues Máni, the moon, driving the two heavenly bodies ever onward through the sky.
It is the terror of these wolves that keeps the sun and moon racing along their courses without rest. Should either ever falter, the wolf behind it would close the gap and swallow it whole.
At Ragnarök, that dreadful moment finally comes. The wolves catch their prey at last and devour the sun and the moon, plunging the world into darkness as the doom of the gods unfolds. They are often reckoned to be of the brood of the wolf Fenrir.
