Fenrir

The mighty wolf destined to bring doom to the gods

Fenrir the Great Wolf

Overview

Fenrir is one of the most famous creatures in Norse mythology. Born as the son of Loki and the giantess Angrboða, this enormous wolf struck fear into the hearts of even the mighty gods themselves.

The gods raised Fenrir in Asgard, but as he grew larger and stronger, only Tyr was brave enough to feed him. Prophecies foretold that Fenrir would bring destruction to the nine worlds, leading the gods to take drastic action.

After two failed attempts to bind him with strong chains, the gods commissioned the dwarves to create a magical fetter called Gleipnir. This seemingly delicate ribbon proved strong enough to hold the mighty wolf, though the success came at the cost of Tyr's right hand.
