Eitri

The master dwarf whose craftsmanship shaped the treasures of the gods

Eitri the dwarven smith

Overview

Eitri — also known as Sindri in some sources — is one of the most skilled and revered dwarven smiths in Norse mythology. Along with his brother Brokkr, he was responsible for forging several of the gods’ most treasured and powerful items, including Mjölnir, Thor’s legendary hammer.

Eitri gained fame during the wager between Loki and the dwarf brothers. Loki claimed that the sons of Ivaldi were the greatest craftsmen in the cosmos, but Brokkr and Eitri challenged this, promising to forge treasures even finer. Their work would ultimately prove decisive: despite Loki’s interference, they produced unmatched creations of divine power.

Through dedication, skill, and a mastery of magical metallurgy, Eitri shaped objects that would define the fate and power of the gods throughout the myths.

Master Creations

Mjölnir

The thunder hammer of Thor, powerful enough to crush mountains and return to its wielder’s hand. Forged under intense heat while Loki tried to disrupt the process, resulting in its famously short handle.

Draupnir

Odin’s golden ring which duplicates itself every ninth night, symbolizing endless wealth and divine abundance.

Gullinbursti

Freyr’s shining golden boar, who runs faster than any horse and emits light so bright it illuminates even the darkest forests.

Unmatched Smithing Skill

Eitri’s control over heat, metal, and magic set him apart as one of the most gifted artisans in all the realms, sought by gods and envied by dwarves.
