Overview
Among the many creatures that live upon Yggdrasil, the great World Tree, are four stags. Their names are Dáinn, Dvalinn, Duneyrr, and Duraþrór, and they run among the highest branches, feeding upon the tree's leaves and tender new buds.
The four are counted among the beasts that slowly wear at Yggdrasil. While the dragon Nidhogg gnaws at its roots below, the stags nibble at its crown above, so that the tree suffers from every side at once.
Little is told of the stags beyond their browsing, yet they are part of the strange and busy ecology of the World Tree, a reminder that even the pillar of the cosmos is a living thing, fed upon and endured.
