Overview
Skinfaxi (Old Norse *Skinfaxi*, “Shining Mane”) is the magnificent horse who draws the chariot of Dagr, the personification of Day. His mane shines so brightly that it lights up the entire sky, bringing daylight to the lands of gods, giants, and humans.
Described in the *Vafþrúðnismál*, Skinfaxi is the celestial opposite of Hrimfaxi, the horse of Night. Where Hrimfaxi brings darkness and dew, Skinfaxi brings warmth, brilliance, and clarity — the full radiance of daybreak.
His journey across the heavens marks the cycle of daytime, making Skinfaxi one of the primary cosmic horses in Norse mythology and an essential part of the world’s celestial rhythm.
